Difference Between Single Duvets And Single Duvet Covers

Now that you’ve bought a brand new bedroom set for your newly remodeled bedroom, it’s time to go and start shopping for single duvets and single duvet covers that you’ve had your heart set one when you were shopping for the bed.  All these years, you have probably been using simple blankets and bed sheets, or a hand me down bedding set more than 20 years old.  Assuming this is your first time in ages looking for bedding, you might ask yourself, “so where do I start shopping for new stuff?”  There are numerous places you can shop for a duvet and single duvet covers.  With the common usage of computers these days, you can shop from home and save yourself the headache of traffic and crowds trying to shop in a store.  Or if you prefer, you can look up items online that you’re interested in buying and then go buy them at the store.

First, understand what a single duvet is.  Contrary to what some believe, a duvet is not a cover.  It is a cover in that you can put it over you to keep warm but it is not lines to cover a blanket or a comforter as some believe.  When shopping for a duvet, you may even need to describe to the sales person what it is that you’re looking for.  If you prefer not to buy a duvet at a store, you need to be extra careful if you shop online.  Here again, you may come across an item that reads, “Duvet included in duvet set”.  That can be misleading as that may be a reference to a duvet cover and not the duvet you’re looking for.  Be sure you read the description and make sure there is a picture of the duvet you want.  If you’re still uncertain, you may wish to contact the store itself and speak with their customer service department.

Second, when you buy a duvet, the next thing you want to start looking at single duvet covers.  The single duvet covers are what you need to cover the duvets themselves.  Duvet covers actually have other uses because you can actually cover a thin blanket with them during the warm summer months and allow the decoration or color scheme give your bedroom a nice decorative touch.  Single duvet covers are what give your duvet “the look”.  This is what guests in your home will see on your bed when they visit.  You can actually buy a few single duvet covers to use on the same duvet, blanket, or comforter.  In addition to highlighting your bedroom with a nice touch, single duvet covers have a more important function.  They protect your duvet from wear and tear and will ensure that you’ll have your duvet or comforter for years to come.

A good duvet or comforter requires good care particularly if it’s one that is filled with natural fiber such as goose down, duck feathers, or any other kind of natural fill.  When it comes time to clean it, you’ll need to take it to the dry cleaners.  Even though dry cleaning is expensive, it’s the most recommended way to clear a duvet so that it isn’t damaged.  In order to prevent having to clean the duvet frequently, it’s best to buy a couple of single duvet covers so that you can change them on the duvet from time to time so that the duvet doesn’t need to be washed.   It’s much easier and inexpensive to clean a single duvet cover because you can wash it in a washing machine.  Before washing them, read the cleaning instructions that are either the packaging the cover came in or sewn on to the fabric itself.  Chances are that it’ll be OK to wash them in a washer.  Finer fabric such as silk should probably still be taken to a dry cleaner.  A silk/cotton blend item can possibly be washed in a washer or even hand washed yet it’s best to check directions first.

Finally, one important detail to keep in mind when shopping for a duvet and a single duvet cover is to check and make sure the fabric is made with fire resistant material.  When you’re shopping for these items, they may not seem that important but should there ever be a fire in your home, you’ll be glad your duvet and duvet cover were fire resistant.  No item is “fire proof”.  Any kind of fabric you buy will burn.  What a fire resistant blanket will do is allow you to get out of your bed and leave the bed room without sustaining any serious burns or injury.  Make safety a priority when shopping for any bedding items.
