Fibers Used In A Single Duvet Set

The main purpose for buying a single duvet set is because of the economy of having a complete bedding set purchased for one price.  While there are several features you should be aware of when buying single duvet sets, the primary item to check is the type of fill the duvet contains.  In many ways, shopping for a single duvet set is not unlike shopping for sleeping bags.  If you go into a store that sells camping gear, you’ll find a many sleeping bags that range in price according to quality.  In principle, good down filled sleeping bags are highly recommended because outdoor temperatures can fluctuate throughout the night.  Some goose down sleeping bags can keep you warm at sub-zero temperatures.  By comparison, there are less pricey bags that are filled with synthetic fiber which work fine but are rougher to sleep on and uneven as far as keeping you warm.  For very similar reasons, the same holds true with a duvet.

Goose down filled duvets are recommended because they offer maximum comfort and warmth when you pull the over you at night.  Even when the temperature is a little warmer, a goose filled duvet is still comfortable because because the down material allows for a better flow of air.  When you’re shopping for a single duvet set, or even a single duvet, it’s wise to apply the same principle you would when buying clothing or when buying a sleeping bag.  Common sense alone would tell you that a pima cotton shirt will give you more comfort than one made of synthetic fiber.  Likewise, a down sleeping bag will give you more comfort tha one made with synthetic fiberfill.

The biggest appeal about a synthetic fiber filled duvet is the price.  In a catalog, they may appear as beautiful as a more expensive duvet.  In some cases, they may feel soft when you first touch them.  But when you actually use it, a synthetic fiber fill will quickly become hot and uncomfortable.  If price is an issue when buying a duvet, it’s best to look for higher quality that’s put on sale.  You can find sale items at the stores and at online outlets that sell a variety of duvets.

One of the problems with a more expensive duvet with natural fibers such as goose down is that it may require frequent cleaning from constant use.  The only recommended cleaning for a duvet is dry cleaning which can become expensive.  This is one of the reasons that when you buy a duvet, a duvet cover is also recommended because it will protect the duvet from wear and tear and having to dry clean it often.  Duvet covers for the most part a machine washable.

Although duck feathers and goose down are considered as the best fill material for a duvet, there are other natural fibers that can be considered without resorting to a a synthetic fiber duvet.  Cotton is also a good fill if a down fill is still out of your price range.  The benefit of a cotton cover over you is the softness and the ability for air to circulate around you.

For those who may be allergic to feathers and down, there is another option: Alpaca wool.  This particular duvet may not be as easy to find but if you do have allergies, or are giving a duvet as a gift to someone you know that has allergies, alpaca wool is a good alternate.  The wool is hypoallergenic and provides very similar comforts as a down comforter or duvet.  For sources that sell alpaca wool filled duvets, check for information online where they can either be ordered or for a store in your area that sells them.

After you’ve determined the quality of the duvet fill, the next thing to do is look at the fabric that comes in the single duvet set.  The fabric that comes in the set practically goes hand in hand.  Buying a set can sometimes be risky because even though you are getting several bedding items in one package for one price, you may find that the duvet alone is down or cotton filled but the fabric of the linens and duvet cover is made of synthetic fiber.  That would defeat the purpose of owning a good duvet if the rest of the bedding is not compatible in quality.  Synthetic linens can be just as stifling and uncomfortable as if you were being covered by a synthetic filled duvet.

Last but not least, make sure that the outer shell of the duvet and the duvet cover are fire resistant.  For that matter, all other items in the single duvet set should be fire resistant.  The fire resistant matter should afford you the opportunity to leave a room safely if there’s ever a fire in your bedroom.
